The position of Telesales Consultant is one which specialises in booking flights and holidays worldwide. This position is often found in large call centres, which service technology customers who book over the internet or book using the telephone after they have seen advertising for lastminute cheap holidays often on teletext or on internet sites.
Telesales Consultants work for bonded travel companies usually with an ABTA and IATA license and broker the best flights from as many airlines as possible to offer the bests prices. They also sell package holidays on behalf of tour operators and specialise in selling off any last minute capacity for chartered airline seats or hotel beds.
The companies sell flights to the public at a marked up price but cheaper than the scheduled fares offered by the airlines themselves. This is also known as consolidated or discounted flights. They help the tour operator to sell all the holidays they have contracted with hotels and airlines. Telesales Consultants may also sell other services such as hotel and car hire bookings. Selling other services with a flight is called dynamic packaging.
A successful career as a Telesales Consultant requires thorough knowledge of a CRS computer reservations system such as Galileo, Sabre, Worldspan or Apollo. Companies also require a good general knowledge of package holidays and tourist destinations around the world. People who have worked in retail travel agencies are very suited to this role. You should also demonstrate good sales skills. There are temporary and permanent jobs available for Telesales Consultant roles.
