It’s official! There’s an upturn in business confidence and jobs filled!

Date: 29 Mar 2010

I recently attended a recruitment briefing with fellow recruitment agencies specialising in different disciplines such as Care, IT, Health and Safety and Commercial recruitment. These agencies are all members of TEAM, which is an association of independent agencies. I am the Regional Director for TEAM for London. We all heard the results of a nationwide survey of around 300 team member recruitment agencies. 67% of the Recruitment Agencies were reporting a strong upturn in temporary placements and 85% found permanent placements were up too. The general confidence across the labour market is hugely improved. Recruitment Agencies are always the first to feel a recession with vacancies on hold and recruitment freezes. However, we are always the first to feel the upturn and long may this continue. The travel industry has also confidently recruited temporary and permanent staff strongly since November 2009 and New Frontiers have had a very profitable 1st quarter of 2010. As the election approaches there are concerns that uncertainty may affect the labour markets. However, I believe an injection of extra confidence will occur as the country is no longer uncertain about who will be leading us all out of this crisis and this will give extra momentum to business and financial markets. It is important that whichever party is elected, they continue to support businesses to grow strong balance sheets and provide more employment. This is achievable with minimum legislative interference and supportive ‘time to pay’ and other financial schemes as well as networks such as Business Link providing necessary sign posting and experts for business.
