New Frontiers launched the Backing Young Britain Government Initiative!
May 2010 update: New Frontiers have registered over 50 work experience and internship opportunities since officially launching this new government initiative ‘Backing Young Britain’ to their clients. This initiative has generated a high level of interest with many clients taking on 2-3 young individuals at one time.
New Frontiers are delighted to be in partnership with the Backing Young Britain Government Initiative that aims to help young people in the UK (non graduates, aged between 18 and 24) who are struggling to get a foothold in the current job market.
Between now and June 2011, this fully funded Government Initiative is giving 20,000 young jobseekers across the UK a chance to get valuable and practical experience at a local company. The programme will give them the work experience they need to prosper in today's tough opportunity market. These opportunities will be good for business, good for young people and good for Britain.
All companies across the country can offer unpaid internships for non graduates who are unemployed and receiving job seekers allowance. While the young person gets a chance to develop their skills, the company will benefit from their effort and enthusiasm for 8-13 weeks at a time, at least 25 hours per week on an internship programme or full time work experience for 2 weeks with the option of the candidate working 16 hours a week on an on-going basis after their 2 week initial work experience.
Participation is free - companies don't need to pay a placement fee or a wage as the young people receive a training allowance paid by the government. Although the company should ideally provide travel and lunch allowances to the young individuals.
Once the company has decided on what work experiences they can offer, they can simply register there opportunities at www.newfrontiers.co.uk
The Backing Young Britain team will collate and assess the responses so companies will only get the best candidates. They can also choose to meet the applicant before offering the opportunity.
Morag Meldrum, Marketing and Communications Manager at New Frontiers said: ‘This initiative gives companies an opportunity to bring new talent on board who can potentially boost other employees, as well as being a extra pair of hands to assist busy teams or take on short term project work’. Morag Meldrum also said ‘Companies can opt for rolling internships, so as soon as one intern leaves, another starts or if they have been really impressed they may want offer the young person a permanent post’.
